Lake Oswego, Oregon

Dear Charlotte,

My deepest thanks for the information about the Olinger Property. I think it is a disgrace that it was destroyed.

I remember George Olinger very well.  I was one of the early members of the Highlander Boys at the age of six or seven.  I lived in Edgewater and regularly caught the tram car at the turn around at Sheridan and 23rd and rode across Denver to our drill sessions.  Olinger personally directed much of our activity and once a year held a full dress parade of us in the Auditorium before huge crowds. My training in the Highlanders was most significant and helped me to become a combat pilot and officer in World War II. I still have the Highlander Manual. Olinger was a truly great man.  I can remember how deeply he was hurt when the great depression of the 1930's ruined his finances and he had to cease construction of the memorial mausoleum at Crown Hill.  The Tower stood unfinished for years after.

I read the news letter carefully.  I see you and Claudia met with an exclassmate of mine, Doris Ibbison..(great gal!)

I have some great stories to tell about my life growing up in Wheat Ridge.  It is too hard for me to travel or I would come to a meeting and tell you a remarkable story about how Kenny Wilmore and I uncovered a pile of Civil War cannon balls along the irrigation ditch along the ridge between 38th and 32nd.  We played with them as shot puts and left one in a pile of leaves near the Wilmore house at Green Bowers.  Someone buried the leaves-the ball exploded and riddled the Wilmore kitchen with shrapnell. A piece just missed Doris Wilmore's head.

Thank you again for the news articles.  It meant a lot to get them - but it was sad news--

Sincerely, Roland Fisher

Wow here it is December already only a few days until the annual bazaar at the museum 4610 Robb.  People are working their fingers to the bone to make this one of the best ever event.  MARK YOUR CALENDARS.  DECEMBER 12TH AT THE MUSEUM 4610 ROBB ST. FROM 10:OO A.M. UNTIL 3:OO P.M. GOOD EVENT FOR THE LAST MINUTE SPECIAL ONE OF A KIND GIFTS.

Again a special day at the Historic Park for Thanksgiving.  Don cooked a delicious turkey in the old Wood Stove Charlotte made the dressing and it also was out of this world.  Lots of dishes of every variety were brought by the guests.  Family Friends neighbors and neighborhood children stopped by to enjoy the feast or just say hello.  Many stories and lots of laughs. Just warm enough outside for the kids to run around and just cool enough for adults to shout the infamous saying "SHUT THE DOOR"  a hundred times as the little ones hopped in to warm up by the stove.  A very special day to give thanks for all we have and for the great country that we live in.  A very special thanks to John Ross who makes all the mess disappear like magic. Thanks again to all for a wonderful day.

                                              Last Friday

What a fun day last Friday. We spent the day with a new member doing research.  We were very happy we were able to help him as much as we did.  He is researching for a book so we are not at liberty to discuss the particular aspects of the research but it was fun and led us down some unexpected paths.  We are looking forward to his return.

                                          Mondays at the Museum

A lovely group of ladies contacted us a few months ago.  The society has invited them to use the museum for Tole Painting.  They do not have a name but became friends at the Tole Hut which was a lively business until a few years ago.  They painted together for many years there and then when the business closed began meeting in each others homes.  Fran Langdon thought of us and asked if they could meet at the museum.  They are and yours truly Claudia Worth has again picked up the hobby.  Welome Tole Painters we have enjoyed having you.  And it gives us a reason to clear off the table every week.
